Bonnie 11-000-PC |
Bonnie is a two year old spayed female Schipperke who came from a neglectful environment. She has a lovely disposition and is so eager to please the people around her. This happy-go-lucky girl is good with other dogs, cats and with children over 8 years old. She has been put on a new diet and her housetraining is next to perfect. Bonnie does best when she is with her doggy companion. She enjoys following along with the other dogs as they go through their daily routine. Bonnie's crate training is also coming along. Like all Schips she is high energy and always in motion. She needs a fenced yard since her recall is still not perfect. This breed is very fun but they also need firm guidance. Obedience training is strongly recommended for this breed. With love and patience, little Bonnie will become a perfect little housedog companion. Shortly after intake, it was discovered that Bonnie had a luxating patella in her knee and the cruciate ligament was also involved. This condition was causing problems in her hip and lower back. She underwent three complicated and expensive surgeries to help correct the problem. In the end, at the advice of her surgeon, it was unfortunately necessary to amputate Bonnie's leg. Bonnie is adjusting well to her new situation and she will remain in permanent care in her NASAP foster home. Age : 2 years

Albert 10-050-C |
Albert is a lovely neutered male cat that came to NASAP from Beaumont Pound. When we first met him in June 2010, he was a complete mess and had obviously been through some serious hardships for some time. He was skin and bones and was covered in abcessed puncture wounds. He also had some type of thermal injury to most of his back and hind legs and was terribly matted. He received vet care for his wounds and supportive care at the pound. He gained weight and his coat grew in glossy and beautiful because of receiving regular and nutritious meals. Albert is friendly, outgoing, talkative and very sweet. He just wants to be petted and loved. He is a very special cat and so deserving of a loving forever home. No major medical issues showed up after intial bloodwork and urinalyses and we were hopeful that he would be quickly adopted into a loving forever home. Unfortunately, more recent tests have confirmed that he is in the early stages of kidney disease. Luckily his wonderful foster mom is able to keep him in permanent care with NASAP. We are very pleased that Albert will receive the care he needs for the rest of his life.

Molly 10-000-D |
Miss Molly was surrendered to us by her owners three years ago. Since then she has been diagnosed with liver shunts and as a result she requires a very expensive surgery to help her survive. Molly is a sweet young girl who will have the chance to live a long and happy life if she gets this sugery. She is a lively, happy girl who gets on well with people and other animals. The cost for Molly's surgery will be around $5,000.00 so we are hoping to raise enough to cover some or all of this expense. If you can find it in your heart to help with Molly's care Nasap and Molly will be eternally grateful for your wonderful support.

Daisy and Bear 09-035-C |
Daisy and Bear came into foster care together in 2009 and they are the absolute best of buddies! Due to recurring health issues with Daisy, they are going to remain in permanent care in their NASAP foster home. They are sensitive cats and this will allow them to enjoy routine and structure so that they can enjoy life without worrying too much about changes and/or unexpected surprises! These two are both incredibly sweet and very, very loving cats. They play together often - wrestling and tag are two of their favorite games. Once they are all tuckered out, they will usually settle in together for a quiet buddy-grooming session (Daisy is usually on the receiving end of this!) and sometimes will even fall asleep together like kittens! Individually, Daisy is fairly laid back and loves to nap and window watch...unless you are laying on the couch or sitting around somewhere, in which case she really likes to just be with you. She doesn't require a whole lot of petting (although she will take it if you want to give it!); she just seems to love touching, sitting on, or just being physically close to you. She does like to play with her favorite toys in the evening and will do ANYTHING for Temptations cat treats! Bear is the more timid of the two, although he is also the one who will stir up some trouble! He loves to play with Daisy and will usually be the instigator of their games. He is incredibly affectionate and loves to cuddle and be petted.

Diesel 09-020-D |
Diesel is a 2 year old neuter male German Shepherd cross that was surrendered to us due to personal circumstances in his family. It was observed while Diesel was in our care that he had some problems with stairs, that the muscle mass on his hips were not well developed and when touched in the hip area he seemed to have discomfort. Diesel was taken into Towne Centre Veterinary Clinic in Edmonton for examination and ex rays. The vet diagnosed him with Canine Hip Dysplasia in both hips which was determined to be severe and Canine Cruciate Ligament Injury in his right front knee.We have been told that the Ligament Injury may have been caused from the Hip Dysplasia. Usually when a dog has a ligament injury you find that the dog will not put their weight on their injury leg; Diesel cannot do this as he needs to compensate for the back hips and shifts most of his weight to his front legs and in doing this the vet feels that this may have caused the ligament injury. NASAP was given the option of surgery, but we were also told by the vet that with such a large dog and the severity of the hip dysplasia, the surgery cannot be guaranteed to give him any real improvements in his condition. Because of his medical problems, the vet determined that Diesel is not adoptable. Instead of putting Diesel through three operations and a long recovery period with no guarantee that his condition would improve, NASAP then decided to place him in permanent care and to give him a place to live and be cared for, loved and cherished at this time. Diesel is currently receiving medication for pain management, special food for mobility problems, supplements and is currently undergoing acupuncture treatment in hopes to help with pain management and mobility issues. Diesel is an awe inspiring dog he is a gentle, intelligent boy who just loves to talk, play, cuddle and just hang out with his people both human and furry.
