This is Makena! She has been with NASAP since October 2014. We are very sad that she received a reputation as a ‘high needs’, ‘hard to handle’ dog when she was first with us. This could not be further from the truth. A change in foster homes almost 6 months ago and allowing her to re-learn how to be a dog has made us see Makena's true personality. There are no behavioural issues, no escape attempts, no aggression of any kind. She is an amazingly wonderful dog. She is very loving and loyal. She listens well, is well mannered and eager to please. She is cautious with other dogs at first but once she has time to meet them, she is very pleasant and eager to play. She is very affectionate and loves to be with people. She is playful and has a lot of energy. She loves walks and is currently on a farm where she helps with daily chores and keeps watch over the lamas. She is very clever and smart. She loves to be outdoors but is house trained and we do not want her to be adopted as a strictly outdoor dog. She needs a family and to be part of a family. She is leash trained and with a knowledgable and consistent handler she is a dream dog. She loves people and does well with young children and people of all ages. She is very friendly when meeting people. She loves to cuddle - curling up by your feet or snuggled on the couch. She can be talkative when alerting you to people or animals approaching but she does not bark excessively. She is microchipped, vaccinated, and spayed. She is ready to be adopted!
