These are some of the latest events to happen at NASAP.
On September 19, 2009 NASAP held its annual silent auction event at Average Joe's sports bar in Sherwood Park. NASAP received numerous fantastic items donated by generous individuals and local businesses. Items included an electric base guitar and amplifier, several Edmonton Oilers and Eskimos tickets, a barbeque, spa and massage sessions, and a laptop, among many others. Not surprisingly, many of these prizes were hotly contested throughout the evening and bidding was fast and furious! We had an excellent turnout as tickets were sold in advance and we were able to draw into the fun many regular bar patrons throughout the night. We also had several fun activities during the night including prize-filled balloon sales, a raffle for a gift basket, door prizes and a longest drive competition on the bars golf simulator. After everything was all said and done, NASAP raised in excess of $7000, which makes this event our most important fundraising event of the year. This premiere event would not have been possible without the countless hours of work by NASAPs Board of Directors, the NASAP fundraising committee, many dedicated regular volunteers, donation contributors, and the wonderful staff at Average Joes. As a fully volunteer-run organization, it is exciting to know that money raised through events like the silent auction will go directly to improving the health and care of countless homeless cats, dogs and small animals. NASAP sincerely thanks all of the people and businesses that donated items and all of the volunteers that planned and worked at the event. If you would like to be a part of exciting and rewarding future fundraising events like NASAPs annual silent auction, please email NASAP at admin@nasap.ca or call (780) 922-0250. It is never to early to donate an item for next years auction or join NASAPs fundraising committee!
Sadie’s K9 Stay & Play (www.sadiesk9stayandplay.com) played host to the first annual NASAP Adoption Discovery Day in support of the Northern Alberta Society for Animal Protection (NASAP) on Saturday, April 4, 2009. This event, promoted by 630 CHED, was held to bring awareness to the ongoing need for NASAP small animal, cat and dog foster homes and for new and active NASAP volunteers. All NASAP animals are housed and cared for in volunteer foster homes at no charge to the foster parents. The fostering experience is a rewarding one as it allows people to be directly involved with rescuing a homeless companion animal and getting it started on the road to a better life.
Sadie’s provided an excellent venue for our dogs to mingle and play and for our cats to gain exposure beyond their pictures and bios on NASAP’s website. Turnout for the event was excellent! Several former NASAP adopters and their pets dropped by to enjoy the fun and festivities. Many new potential adopters also stopped by, anxious to meet new forever family members. New volunteers and foster homes filled out application forms, eager to become part of team NASAP.
The event was a resounding success and a couple of our cats were adopted out to great new forever homes! NASAP also raised funds through sale of hotdogs, drinks and NASAP merchandise and clothing. The silent auction included many great gifts donated by our partners and supporters (including Sadie’s) and was instrumental toward raising funds for veterinary care, supplies and food.
NASAP would like to whole-heartedly thank Sadie’s for hosting this event and playing an important role in its planning and success. We look forward to future events at Sadies where we hope to continue to support the causes of animal rescue and responsible pet ownership. The first annual adoption discovery day was a great success, however the need for active foster homes, volunteers and donations towards care of NASAP animals is ongoing. If you are interested in further information about fostering or volunteering or if you are interested in adopting a NASAP animal, please contact NASAP!
