Jasmine

Jasmine todayJasmine

Jasmine was brought in as an orphan with another litter of 5 kittens. Shortly after one of her friends (Petey) fell ill, Jasmine began exhibiting the same symptoms. She wanted nothing but to sleep constantly and she was skin and bones. Her white blood cell count fell to a dangerously low level. NASAP volunteers coordinated with various vet clinics around the city and set up a transport system to get Jasmine back and forth to her critical treatments. As Calgary Trail Pet Clinic was busy saving Petey, Jasmine had to go elsewhere for her lifesaving treatment. She was driven to one vet clinic for IV fluids and medication during the day and she then had to be transported to the emergency vet clinic for treatment during the night. At one point she seemed well enough to be removed from her IV and her foster mom syringe-fed and weighed Jasmine every 2 hours through the night to make sure she was staying healthy enough to get well. It soon was apparent that she was once again sliding backwards and she was put back on IV fluids the next afternoon. Through many transport trips, sleepless nights and worrisome days, Jasmine got the fluids and treatment she needed to finally get well. Her final diagnosis was also panleukopenia (feline distemper) but after about a week of treatment, Jasmine was deemed well enough to go home. She is now recovering very nicely in her foster home with Petey for company.

Jasmine’s treatment has run into the thousands of dollars, and we desperately need your help to offset some of the cost. There are those that would have said not to bother and that it is not worth the time, effort and money to save this one life. If you could meet little Jasmine, experience her wonderful personality, and know how hard she worked to stay with us and get better, there would be no doubt in your mind that we did the right thing. Please donate towards Jasmine’s vet care or become a valued foster home with NASAP, and help save the next Petey and the next Jasmine. Thank you.

Update: Jasmine, Petey (who it turns out is a girl!) and Petey's brother Hansel are all living happily together in their wonderful forever home. Their new owner writes: We adore them and they are happy and thriving. Thank you for saving them, i can't begin to tell you how much happiness they bring us and how much we love them...Petey is growing very fast, he kinda looks like a teenager now, with long legs and a lot of personality.  He met my son's Papillon dog last week-end and ruled!!!! They ended up playing with each other and sleeping on the same couch within 2 short hours!  Jazzy wasn't impressed but joined in anyway, sleeping at the other end of the couch.  Petey is doing very well in the stairs, storming through them, nice that they are carpet!  They both love their food, and Petey loves to sleep right onto the hot air vents in every room... I wonder if he's been cold in his 'younger' days, but that's what he does, he grooms himself on the vents! Petey has his favorite toys, and he drags them all over the place and Jazzy chases Petey and the the other end of the stick toys!! They are the sunshine in our lives, they make us laugh and go "awe..." in admiration and love of them... Thank you, thank you, thank you for saving their lives and giving us the gift of them!!
