Andy (short for Andy Panda due to his markings) is an approximately five year old tuxedo, neutered male kitty. He came to NASAP from Parkland veterinary clinic and we don't know much about his past before he arrived there. Unfortunately, Andy shows signs of having suffered trauma or abuse in his past, and has difficulty meeting new people. His behaviour is fearful in new places and situations, but even when very frightened he is never aggressive. He desperately wants to trust people and is capable of giving and receiving considerable affection when he is happy and comfortable.
Andy loves to talk and has a unique and varied vocabulary (his foster caregiver is certain he calls her mamama whenever he wants attention). As a sign of his inherently sweet disposition, within days of going to his current fosterhome, Andy was asking for head scratches, chin rubs and was responding to a grooming brush with purrs of delight. Andy has a collection of toys that he loves to hunt and chase on his own, and he enjoys interactive games with his caregiver (the Cat Dancer he is holding in his photo is one of his favourites). Andy shows no sign of wanting to run outside (though he does like to spend time sitting on a perch with a view out of a window) and is probably an ideal indoor cat. He loves canned food and practically dances while the bowl is set down. With his musical voice it's like dinner and a show! Andy is one of those very special cats for whom the investment of time and care will be rewarded with sincere love and devotion. Andy might be happier as an only pet, but he may be able to companion another friendly cat (he gets along well with the resident older female cat in his his fosterhome). Andy will require a quiet home that is willing to be patient and gentle with him because it may take some time for him to feel settled. A household with dogs and young children is definitely not recommended.
In foster care, Andy received medication to help him feel less anxious. His foster mom reports that he is a very happy boy, full of energy and extremely playful. His anxiety has decreased and although somewhat more comfortable with new people, Andy is still very shy so visitors must be patient with him.
Andy also required eye drops and medication for breathing problems. Most recently he required X-rays to determine that he had an infection or inflammation in his lungs. He required testing and treatment to help him recover from these health-related challenges but he is now doing very well and his lungs are clear! All of this vet care was expensive but very necessary to help Andy recover and eventually be adopted into the right home. Please help us help Andy with a targeted donation towards his care. Any donations above and beyond Andy's vet bills will be used to help other animals in need in similar situations through NASAP's emergency medical fund. Thank you so much!
