Nell Happy TailsNell in care

Nell has travelled a long way to get into NASAP’s care and she couldn’t have done it without the help of Good Samaritans like you. Nell is all the way from Saskatchewan. She staggered onto a man’s farm looking very beaten up. Nell was very sick and had horrible wounds all over her body. The kind man brought her into his care and called his daughter who is a Veterinary Technician in Mayerthorpe, Alberta. She convinced her father to bring Nell to Alberta so they could try and help her.

Once in care at Mayerthorpe Vet Services, the vets concluded that Nell was very underweight, covered in fleas, had the tip of her tail and ears frost bitten off, had scarring on her hind legs and shoulders and had a severe puncture wound to her left eye. They estimated that she had been living with these wounds for one to two months meaning that this all happened to Nell when she was only around 4 months old. It seems likely that Nell was attacked by another animal. No one was sure if Nell would survive or not, as she was in really rough shape.

The vets put Nell on some medication to help her gain her weight back and to get rid of her fleas and they also had to remove Nell’s left eye. The vets did a wonderful job with her and she has pulled through. Nell’s fur will grow back where her eye used to be and there will be a scar. Due to malnourishment during her early developmental stages, Nell will be a very small cat.

NASAP was contacted immediately through one of our volunteers and she was in NASAP's care within a week of her operation. Nell is now in foster care and couldn’t be happier to just have a warm cozy home and not a worry in the world. Nell deserves to go to a wonderful home that will make up for all the missed attention and affection when she was a kitten. She needs a family that will tell her that she is beautiful and that they will always love her. Nell has a wonderfully friendly personality and loves people. She is understandably skeptical of other cats and must go to a home without dogs.

Because Nell was so malnourished and small and because of her eye surgery, she has required antibiotics and blood testing to make sure that her health continues to improve. If you are able to contribute to her care through a targeted donation, NASAP would sincerely appreciate your help. Thank you!

Update from Nell's new home: Nell is doing fantastic! We love her, (as does) anyone else that comes to our home. She has adjusted very well, no issues with only having one eye.One of her favorite activities is huntingflies in our garage. She cries and cries to go out there every night, and now that it's cold out (and no flies), she still wants to "hunt" them. Another favorite activity is fetching with her mouse (she'll drop it right at your feet and wait for you to throw it again). We play every day. She has been a great addition to our family.
