Penelope was a very young and very pregnant cat when NASAP picked her up at Beaumont pound. As you can see from her before and after pictures, she was almost bursting at the seams when she arrived in NASAP's care. Shortly after intake, Penelope gave birth to a staggering litter of 9 kittens! Unfortunately the smallest kitten did not survive and a second had to be humanely euthanized because of a metabolic condition causing her to produce massive bladder stones, but the other seven have done very well in foster care. Because Penelope was so young and small herself, she has had trouble producing enough milk to feed everyone and the kittens had to be supplemented with hand feeding. Penelope and all of her kittens have now been adopted into wonderful homes. Penelope's story illustrates how important it is to be a responsible pet owner by spaying or neutering your new kitten at six months of age. Sterilization is a simple and inexpensive procedure that can be performed at any local veterinary clinic. When you adopt a kitten from NASAP, this surgery is included in the adoption fee. Please consider making a donation to NASAP pound cat spay/neuter program or NASAP's emergency medical fund to help homeless cats like Penelope. Thank you!
