Happy Tails

Just to let you know how thrilled we are with Marlowe, now Marley! He has settled in so well... it’s like he’s lived here all his life! Anna and I went out and bought him a basket with soft supporting sides and he loves it. We take him out for walks round the house on the trail David ploughed for him and he is in heaven. You were right... he moves with much more enthusiasm when he’s outside! Our crew have really responded well to him and follow him everywhere. He will just give the odd “Rrrr” when Squire gets a little too close! I fed him a whole tin of food with dry biscuits and he ate it all in one sitting! I have also started him on the ‘Freedom to Move’ tablets that I give to Jay.  For dessert, he had a pig’s ear and LOVED it!

He truly deserves to live out his days in comfort and with love.

NASAP is very lucky to have you both. Your calm, gentle approach and love for Marlowe was so wonderful to see. He had such a great start to a new life in your care. Thank you... both for your support and for considering us to be the right home for such a lovely old guy!

We have had one slight change of name again... Anna is a lifeguard and swim instructor... not sure if you know the game “Marco Polo”. One person closes their eyes and shouts “Marco!” The rest of the swimmers then respond with “Polo” The aim of the game is for the “blind” person to tag the rest of the swimmers as they shout back and forth. So “Marco” it is! Very close to Marlowe. And the girls felt he couldn’t have a name from a sad movie!

Hi Pat & NASAP,

Just a quick follow up….I adopted Purrcilla from NASAP on May 8, 2008 and she is doing so wonderfully.  She is so sweet and loveable…I can’t imagine life without her.  I initially had got her to be a companion to my cat, Lily, who I had for about a year and thought needed a playmate.  They didn’t get along at first, but they did end up making friends and later on I sometimes even caught them licking each others’ heads.  Things were great for the next year and then sadly, I made the heart-wrenching decision to put Lily to sleep on May 25, 2009.  She had been diagnosed with diabetes on March 15, 2009.  I couldn’t regulate her blood glucose and she kept developing diabetic ketoacidosis (a life-threatening condition which is very expensive to treat).  After spending several thousands of dollars from two ER bills in 10 weeks with no reassurance that I could prevent this from happening again, I had to let her go. 

Purrcilla was my “rock” during this very tough time.  She was at my side during my grieving process and helped heal my heart.  I have since taken in a little orange tabby stray that a friend found in the next neighbourhood.  She was starving and looking very close to death….I’ve named her Peaches.  She has recovered beautifully and is a very feisty girl.  It is so nice to see Purrcilla playing with another cat again, as even though she is 9-1/2 years old she is still very much a playful kitten at heart!

I apologize for being so long since I last let you know how Etni is doing.  It's been a little crazy at work due to the lovely white stuff we have been getting! lol  But everything is going absolutely great.  He is such a happy go lucky kind of dog!! He is getting better and better behaved and a lot more mature.  He makes very few messes in the house and now he always tricks me.  He acts like he has to go to the bathroom outside and I let him out and its just to eat snow!!! lol.  He is such a great dog and I have a few updated pictures of him.  I dont mind if you go ahead and put pictures and a story up on Happy Tails! I will try and keep you posted on how he is doing and get you pictures regularly!  Take Care :)

Dear Jenny, Pat, and Murray:

Thought you might like an update on "Mona Lisa" - now "Molly": She's in great health, recovered beautifully from her spay, aher her affection and playfulness adds so much to our life - although she's so smart she keeps us busy!

She amuses herself with a fuzzy ball for hours, always bringing in into the kitchen as it "skitters" better on the floor -  and she will automatically drop it for me to throw again.

She loves "housework" - barreling around the place as we perform our chores, then settling down on her cat tree in a sunny window to watch kitty TV - 2 bird feeders which also attract the odd squirrel and some outdoor cats (sad to say, some cold, wet and hungry ones!). 

She has several places to scratch, and keeps so busy with her toys (after supper is an hour or two of leaping, summersaulting, pouncing, - her "killer kitty" phase) -  that she hasn't had time to be bored or destructive.

She is completely trusting; confident - one happy cat! To think if what could have happened to such a wonderful animal had it not been for such caring people!

Here is Chopper with his owner, Mya.    Mya and her Mom brought Chopper by the NASAP office for a visit today, and to drop off $75 in donation that Mya has been saving up from her allowance.  So, a very big THANK YOU Mya for that!      A big thank you also to Leslie, for sticking with Chopper through some initial behavioural issues.   With help and advice from Maggie at Capable Canines, Chopper is now a much easier dog to live with.     His separation anxiety is under control and his leash aggression is much diminished.     He was the sweetest guy when he came by today.   Definitely on his best behaviour and getting along just fine with everyone.     He knows when he's onto a good thing!    Chopper is a very lucky little dog.

I apologize for taking so long for getting back to you, but everything is fine.  Brodie has adjusted quite nicely to our household, and I have to admit we are all very attached to him, including our Golden Retreiver Cleo.  They are best friends and we enjoy watching them play and perform for us. Brodie sleeps with our eleven year old son, Evan and sometimes sleeps with me during the day, as I work nights. He is a very curious and energetic little dog, and we try to give him and Cleo as much exercise as possible.  Over all we are very happy with our new addition to the family and were happy to give him a good home. I have attached some pictures so you can see how he has adjusted. Any questions, don't hesitate to call or email us. Take care.

All is well with Cleo. We all love her - she gets many hugs each day from us/our kids. She dressed up as a soccer player for Halloween... kids just loved that! We figured out - for the most part - things that trigger her nervous peeing and it has curbed. We don't leave her alone for long - but when we have to she seems to like to go into a crate. See photos attached...

All in all things are good and we are happy to have her as a part of our family!

Oh yeah, one more thing you may get a smile out of...  as you may remember Cleo is amazing at catching a ball.  So, each day I'll take her with me to pick up our son from gr. 1 and because she's so fast/agile - I'll always have a crowd of kiddies around me begging to throw the ball for Cleo.  Cleo loves it, the kids love it.  I really should start charging a fee...LOL! Audri ;)
